This best-in class Sediment Control Matting is used in waterways for the protection of streams from sedimentation damage during stream construction activities such as utility installation, ditch maintenance and bridge work. These 1.2m x 3m mats are fixed to the stream bed in singles or multiples and do not impede water flow downstream.
Sediment generally flows along the streambed current until encountering the Sediment Mat and will settle through the upper layer of jute mesh and into a layer of wood wool. Its lower layer of hessian prevents the sediment from escaping and once construction works are complete the mats are removed and can be seeded to provide stream bank stabilisation – as the mats are fully biodegradable there is no need for disposal. Once the sediment is mixed with rotting wood wool it provides a seedbed for germination and growth of the seed mix.
This Sediment Mat can be installed on a streambed using either stones or stakes and can be placed in any configuration or number to provide the coverage you like. It can be used along with other methods of stream protection such as coffer dams, silt screen or culverts.
Our best-in class Sediment Mats have been rigorously tested and developed in New York and are able to trap and remove up to 250kg of sediment each. They will not interfere with any ongoing construction activities as they are laid flat on the streambed and are not affected by water velocity or raise the water levels in the area which can cause flooding.
